Wendy Davis’ filibuster on the floor of the Texas Senate Tuesday launched her to the #39 spot on the TrendPo Rank–that’s a 560 spot leap!

The senator’s thirteen hour filibuster created an all-out social media frenzy and ultimately killed a bill that aimed to ban abortions after the 20th week of pregnancy.  She even announced her filibuster plans on Twitter.

Here’s a breakdown of some of her social media gains since Monday when she announced her plans to kill the bill:

  • 82,432 Facebook Page Likes
  • 77,893 Twitter Followers
  • 33,947 retweets on her Twitter profile
  • Approximately 200,000 viewers watched the event live via the Texas Tribune’s YouTube feed
  • 5,776 tweets per minute about her story just before the midnight deadline (according to Twitter)

Now that’s some real buzz!

We predict she’ll continue to rise in the rankings as the national media catches up with her story.  Check back here to monitor Davis’ gains in the TrendPo dashboard.

Hi Kira,Well, I wish I could visit Singapore, too. Wouldn’t that be cool?? Well, there are lots of things I could tell you about wtiring: write about the things you know. Make sure you write in a journal as often as you can. But I guess this is the best advice is this: keep wtiring. It takes years and years to find your voice and the best way to do that is keep practicing. The stories I wrote when I was a kid weren’t very good. But I kept at it. Also, the older you get the more you have to write about!Karen

    • That kind of thinking shows you’re on top of your game
